Golden Axe: Beast Rider review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Golden Axe: Beast Rider from Secret Level and Sega for Playstation 3. Nostalgia can only go so far for a release and eventually the game needs to be able to carry itself. Golden Axe tries to bring back the memories but fails to deliver the same quality as previous entries in the series. You play as Tyris, with the other characters only making guest appearances. The game does offer some new combat ideas, such as being able to ride upon beasts that can help you get through areas and burn enemies alive. But for the most part, the combat is bland and uninteresting, making for a game that just can't live up to its historic past.
