Celebrity tenors give charity concert in Moscow

Celebrity tenors Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras performed to a packed audience at Moscow's Christ the Saviour Cathedral on Wednesday (December 19).

The duo gained fame alongside the late Luciano Pavarotti as the Three Tenors.

The two surviving members appeared alongside an orchestra, two female voices and a children's choir, for a benefit concert in aid of disabled and impoverished children.

Moscow's Christ the Saviour Cathedral has recently been in the headlines for another reason.

In February of this year members of the anti-Putin punk rock band Pussy Riot performed their 'punk prayer' in the church, which led to jail sentences for two of the women.

Carreras and Domingo, however, played it safe on this occasion - performing in a concert hall separate from the main altar.
