Fog over Gangotri Glacier

2012-12-20 133

"Gangotri Glacier covered with fog. You can see the crevasses on the glacier, covered in glacial sand, till and soil. In the distance, the peaks of the Bhagirathi range lie shrouded in cloud-cover. A close-up reveals a deep chasm into a crevasse, deep within the Gangotri glacier.

This route follows the path up to the glacial shelf of Tapovan which lies below Mt. Shivling and Meru, the latter peak said to be the center of the universe, for Hindus.

Dark and dreary monsoon season view of the Gangotri glacier, one of the longest in the entire Himalaya! And then, from amongst the mist, rises the ghostly form of Shivling, in the evening sunset light, in between the monsoon clouds!"
