Many would consider it a dream job to work on the ski lifts in a Swiss alpine resort, but the truth is it's hard graft for low pay. The mountain railways staff put in long hours to make the slopes safe. But many receive as little as 12 francs ($13) per hour for 12 to 14 hour shifts. The Trade Union Federation is calling for a minimum wage of 22 francs ($24) per hour, to cope with the high cost of living. The transport staff union is currently trying to negotiate better conditions for ski lift workers.
