STORY: Vietnamese protestors held a rare but brief demonstration against China in Hanoi on Sunday (December 9).

This comes after Beijing demanded on Thursday (December 6) that Hanoi stop unilateral oil exploration in disputed waters and not harass Chinese fishing boats.

About 50 people gathered opposite Hanoi's Opera House, raising banners and shouting in protest against China before marching towards the Chinese Embassy.

Plans for the demonstration had been announced on several blogs.

Protesters carried banners reading "Down with Xi Jinping 's gang" and shouted "Down with invasive China" along the streets of Hanoi before being dispersed by police and plain clothes policemen.

Vietnamese authorities have tolerated a series of protests over China's territorial claims from June to August last year and in July this year.
