Peter Som at TEEN VOGUE Fashion University
TEEN VOGUE - Hudson Theatre
A San Francisco native raised by architect parents, Peter Som was influenced by his surroundings, which is evident in his early sketches. With a degree from Parsons School of Design, Som interned for Michael Kors and Calvin Klein, where his talent was recognized. He debuted his women's wear collection in 2001 at Bryant Park, making a statement with his bold yet sophisticated designs. Som was awarded the Isaac Mizrahi Gold Thimble Award while at Parsons, and has since received countless accolades, including nominations for the 2002 and 2004 CFDA Perry Ellis Award for Emerging Talent, as well as for the 2004 Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund. A favorite of Maggie Gyllenhaal, Scarlett Johansson, and Camilla Belle, his designs are frequently featured in Harper's Bazaar, VOGUE, W, and Elle. Along with designing his signature collections, Som designs Tommy Hilfiger's elegant runway line and accessories. Som will discuss how he maintains a balance between functionality and elegance throughout his collections.
