Culture vs. Human Rights: 'Give and Take' Key to Peace
Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies - University of Sydney
At IPRA 2010, three human rights analysts and activists discuss the extent to which peace researchers can advance the fulfillment of human rights while exploring the dynamics and overlaps of theory and practice.Human rights goes beyond the concept of being a mere theory, and as its advocates across nations continuously develop and refine strategies to raise awareness of both particular injustices both locally and globally, the challenge in peace studies remains.Together, Lisa Natividad and John Ondawame will talk about their efforts to address the human rights violations affecting the indigenous people of Guam and West Papua, while Khan will discuss the challenges and opportunities in protecting human rights of vulnerable groups globally.
