Tens of thousands of Egyptians gathered in Tahrir Square in a mass protest against President Mohamed Mursi.
Many are furious the assembly is racing to approve a new constitution. While Mursi's supporters say the move will speed up the democratic transition, opposition members are not convinced.
Former Arab League Head Amr Moussa joined protesters calling for Mursi to leave. The rally continued even after nightfall.
Two people have been killed and hundreds injured in protests since a decree putting the President above legal challenge was announced last week.
