Spike's VGAs to Deliver Old-School Pleaser - Nick's Gaming View Episode #109

2012-11-28 2

Spike’s VGAs to deliver surprise for old-school gamers, Xbox 360 nearly doubles the initial sales of Wii U during the week of Black Friday, and Nintendo confirms the Wii Mini, THIS IS NICK’S GAMING VIEW!

Geoff Keighly, the host behind Spike’s GameTrailers TV, recently sparked a healthy amount of attention within the gaming world by tweeting “Have an amazing VGA announcement coming together for old-school gaming fans….this one is very special to me personally.” No further details have been given in regards to the announcement up to this point, but anticipation for a new Killer Instinct or Mega Man is at its peak so stay tuned for my coverage of the 2012 Spike VGAs next month.

With Thanksgiving behind us, the largest shopping day of the year has come and gone and while many injuries and fights took place, Microsoft had an incredible week thanks to the killer deals in place for their Xbox 360 console. Selling over 750,000 units during the week of Black Friday just within the United States, Microsoft nearly doubled the sales of the Wii U’s initial launch of 400,000 consoles sold. While it’s way too early to state the success of the Wii U, it’s not very often you see a seven-year-old console outsell a brand new console within its first week of launch.

Wrapping up Nick’s Gaming View, Nintendo isn’t quitting on the original Wii quite yet as they have announced the Wii Mini with a MSRP of $99.99. Including a red Wii MotionPlus and Nunchuk controller, the unit is not backwards compatible nor connectable to the Internet, but for those looking to enjoy the Wii’s titles exclusively offline, this could be an enticing offer, if you are based out of Canada. Available exclusively during this holiday season in Canada, Nintendo is keeping the product offering secluded, at least for now.
