The agreed action plan for the elimination of crime in all industrial areas of Karachi should be implemented within 90 days, said the Sindh governor on Saturday.
Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad said that for ending crime, not only intelligence sharing but also active use of technology was needed.
Talking a delegation of the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE), led by Siraj Qasim Teli, at the Governor’s House, Ebad also asked all trade associations to establish command and control rooms on an emergency basis through which industrial associations could monitor their areas. For this purpose, the governor promised to provide some funds from the governor’s development funds.
He said that apart from security issues, the SITE was also facing other problems such as water and gas shortages and poor roads.
The governor formed a committee for the resolution of the problems. The committee will be led by Commissioner Karachi Hashim Raza Zaidi.
Ebad directed the commissioner to complete a survey of the industrial areas for security and other purposes. He said the industrial areas should ensure well-being and safety of the workers working there.
The governor stressed that all industrial zones should have their own firefighting systems, and issued directions for the provision of a snorkel and a fire tender to the SITE. He said that Pakistan was facing many challenges, including stagnation of the economy, and that the government was taking every possible step to address “this vital issue”.
He said the provision of a secure and conducive atmosphere to industrialists and investors was a priority of the government.
