A court in New York Friday sentence 28 year old Adis Medunjanin (me-dune-JOHN-in) to life in prison for his role in plotting to bomb the New York City subway trains.

Medunjanin was arrested along with two other men in 2009 days before they planned to carry out the attack.

When asked if he would like to make a statement in court, Medunjanin recited verses from the Koran and gave a speech on the plight of Muslims and poor people.

Medunjanin was born in Bosnia but was naturalized as a U.S. citizen and attended high school in Queens New York.

One of Medunjanin's lawyers described him as a bright young man with a loving family who are seen here walking out of the courthouse.

Medunjanin's lawyers say they do plan to appeal.

The two co-conspirators in the bomb plot, both 27 years old, will be sentenced in the coming months.
