The world's largest disaster relief network, the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) says Turkey needs support to provide winter shelter and food to up to 170,000 Syrians.
On Monday, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) made a call for help. Turkey may need to provide winter shelter and food for up to 170 thousand Syrians seeking refuge from a prolonged civil war.
The IFRC says it's emergency appeal of over $34 million dollars covers more than 110 thousand Syrian refugees already in Turkey.
At least 10 thousand have gathered along the border and 50 thousand could cross over in the next six months.

"Today the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has launched an emergency appeal for 32.3 million Swiss Francs to support the Turkish Red Crescent in providing predominantly winter assistance to 100 thousand people who are presently living in the camps in Southern Turkey. There's also some provision of emergency food and non-food assistance to 20 thousand people who are currently congregating at the Turkish-Syrian border as well as providing contingency stocks for an additional 50,000 people, both food and non-food items."
Some 9 thousand Syrians fled in a time span of 24 hours between last Thursday and Friday alone.
They are part of the exodus that has taken place after intensified fighting between Syrian government forces and armed rebels.
Turkish authorities are providing for the refugees in 14 camps near the volatile border and plan to build 3 more camps.
The Turkish government has spent up to $300 million dollars but it needs help from the international community to share the burden of escalating costs.
The six-month appeal is to pay for winter necessities for the Syrians already in southern Turkey. The appeal also includes essential items and food for the Syrian refugees camped out along the border.
