Nobel laureate and Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi returned to her college in New Delhi on Friday (November 16) after a long gap of nearly four decades and says she shares an 'intelligent emotional bond' with India.
Suu Kyi was welcomed with a standing ovation on her return to the auditorium of the distinguished institute, where according to her she learned how to sing.
Accompanied by India's newly appointed junior education minister, Shashi Tharoor, Suu Kyi was all smiles, while sitting on the stage and listening to a girl's choir reciting a poem of renowned Indian poet, Rabindranath Tagore.
Suu Kyi won the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize for championing democracy in opposition to dictatorship enforced by a military junta that held her under house arrest in Myanmar.
