The Aka Pygmy communities living in the northern Congo have been ostracised in their home country for many years. They also have very limited access to healthcare and are still affected by a neglected disease: Yaws. Yaws is a chronic bacterial infection characterised by highly contagious skins lesions. Médecins Sans Frontières came across this disease while carrying out medical consultations in the district of Bétou and tracked down the Aka communities to treat them in their environment, the heart of the forest.
