The Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has announced that the public referendum being held throughout the country on 14th November has been extended in deference to the month of Moharram. The decision has been taken in a joint meeting of the Co-ordination Committee in London and Pakistan. Mr Altaf Hussain, the founder and leader of the MQM, has endorsed the decision of the Co-ordination Committee.
It was noted in the meeting of the Co-ordination Committee that the MQM leaders, elected representatives and other office-bearers would be busy in meeting with religious scholars in order to ensure sectarian harmony during the month of Moharram. Taking stock of all the aspects, the Co-ordination Committee unanimously decided to extend the referendum. The new date of the referendum will be announced at some later stage.
