Co-stars on the big screen - and it would seem good friends in real life, Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz worked the red carpet together at the London premiere of 'Gambit'.

The duo star in the comedy caper - penned by the Coen Brothers.

SOUNDBITE: Director, Michael Hoffman, saying (English) :

"I am not the Coen Brothers and I know that and rarely are the scripts not, do they not direct them - so it was a big honour, but it was also a huge challenge because the language is difficult the way that it - the kind of comedy that it is difficult and distinctive so I was always constantly trying to find a balance between serving it and making it our own at the same time."

Helmed by Michael Hoffman, 'Gambit' tells the funny story of Firth's Harry Deane, an art curator-turned-conman out to get revenge on his nasty boss - played by Alan Rickman.

Despite previous light comedy hits such as 'Bridget Jones' Firth revealed doing farce is tough.

SOUNDBITE: Actor, Colin Firth, saying (English):

"I mean if you don't get it right, if you miss by a millimetre you miss completely, so you are taking a lot on, it would be terrifying in the theatre but of course on a film set you've only got your guess work to play off because you're not going to be laughing at your jokes for 12 hours a day, you've just got to hope that it's coming together."

Not only did the cast have to handle farce - there were also several scenes involving a bit of nudity.

Firth was not sure why his legs have caused so much attention though.

SOUNDBITE: Actor, Colin Firth, saying (English):

"I am a little surprised how much is being made, I am delighted it's getting quite so much attention, I did drop my trousers a la Brian Rix farce but I was fairly well dressed other than the trousers, profoundly unattractive really we are talking about shoes, knee socks, shirt, tie and everything else if that qualifies as nudity then so be it. I think Alan, a little more was asked of poor Alan but I think he was a very, very fine specimen, and of course we'd all pay good money to see this woman." (gestures to Diaz).

'Gambit' opens in the UK on Wednesday, 21 November.
