News of President Obama's win has hit the airwaves around the world-- leading newscasts from Australia, to China, to Pakistan, anchor men and women opened their shows with news of the U.S. Presidential elections.

And in Afghanistan the news was broadcasted across the country.

But in the US embassy in Kabul, embassy staff and journalists watched the returns on American networks.

U.S. Ambassador James Cunningham praised the President on his win.

"It gives me great pleasure to congratulate president Barack Obama on his re-election as president of the United States."

Ties between Western troops and Afghan forces have deteriorated in the past year after a series of "insider" attacks against NATO coalition troops.
