Being of beings, God of love - Chris Lawton at St Andrew's Church, Alexandra Park, London

Me playing the organ at St Andrew's Church in Alexandra Park, London - part of my 'summer in the city 2012' organ crawl of London celebrating youtube, my youtube channel and the John Compton Organ Company Ltd.

The organ was built in 1950 by the John Compton Organ Company Ltd where it replaced an earlier instrument built by Walker. Like all Compton organs, the organ is built using the extension principal and uses 6 ranks of pipes all fully enclosed (with the exception of the Compton patent 32ft polyphonic bass) in a chamber behind a dummy pipe facade. It is a wonderful example of a Compton organ built in this period and has the following original specification:

For this first video im playing the hymn "Being of beings, God of love" to the tune "Tottenham" which being in the north of London and only a few miles away from the area of this same name I thought was a nice choice. As you will hear, the acoustics in this church are excellent and make the organ sound much bigger than it actually is.

Many thanks to the church officials for allowing me to play this fine Compton pipe organ and of course a big thank you to my subscribers and followers - your support and encouragement means a lot.

NOTE: this is purely my interest in order to make sure that these fine organs are archived forever and I do not make any monetary profit by this video being on dailymotion.
