The Congress had initiated development projects in Himachal Pradesh. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Ji and Rajiv Ji, with the help of Congress leaders in this state, had brought in various development works here in the fields of power, roads, dams, education, health and industry. The UPA Government at the centre has taken some landmark steps by providing the state with IIT, Medical College, Central universities, Reserve Battalion, Fashion Technology institutes and a passport office in Shimla.
