A 22-year-old from Hyannis whose girlfriend had recently broken up with him, has won $30.5 million in the Massachusetts lottery. Sandeep Singh, commonly called ‘Sunny’ worked two jobs to help support his mother and sister.
He had won $4 on a scratch ticket and put his winnings towards four quick pick Mega Millions tickets. Sunny learned he was a winner after checking the numbers online and claims he wants to pay his mom’s mortgage off.
He took a lump sum payment, which should give him a net pay out of approximately $16 million after taxes.
As for the unlucky ex, Singh stated “She broke up with me, but right now, I’m not really worried about it. I was heartbroken at first, but now I’m getting over it.”
Earlier this year, another man from Massachusetts got extremely lucky. Richard Brown walked into a Taunton gas station and asked for a $5 scratch ticket, however the busy clerk, who is also the manager, handed him a different ticket. The distracted employee realized his mistake, but Brown decided to keep it. The split-second, passive decision resulted in Brown being a $1 million lottery winner.
