A seafood plant worker dies after being 'cooked' in the company oven.

A Los Angeles man was killed while working at a Bumble Bee Foods tuna processing factory in Santa Fe Springs. 62 year old Jose Melena was the victim of a tragic accident after being an employee of the plant for six years.

According to a spokeswoman for the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, a steam oven cooked him to death while he was pushing cans into a pressure cooker that sterilizes the tuna before being further processed, inspected, and shipped.

No further details were available as investigations into worker fatalities typically take several months. Bumble Bee released a statement that “The entire Bumble Bee Foods family is saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Melena family.”

In another case of controversial jobsite death from earlier in 2012, an employee who works for Apple supplier Foxlink fell to his death in China. The man’s family is blaming Foxlink for his death saying that he committed suicide because the company would not give him time off to attend a family reunion.
