Deputy Convener of the Co-ordination Committee of the MQM Mr Anis Ahmed Qaimkhani has said that the daughter of the nation Malala Yousufzai was shot in Sawat only because she was promoting knowledge among Pakistani girls and women. He said that the MQM leader Mr Altaf Hussain had forewarned the people that the Taliban were about to reach at their doorsteps but nobody believed him. He was speaking at a large prayer meeting held in Lal Qila Ground in Azizabad for Malala Yousufzai.
“Today Malala Yousufzai has been targeted in Sawat, and tomorrow the same fate can befall to other daughters of the nation in cities like Karachi, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad and Islamabad. We will have to defend ourselves and form committees for protecting our neighbourhoods.”
“We will have to rise against the religious extremists now that they have started targeting our daughters.”
Terming the Taliban terrorists as cowardly Mr Qaimkhani said, “They would not have attacked innocent children had they been courageous. They could not be called humans because of what they have done.”
Mr Qaimkhani said that the MQM leader Mr Altaf Hussain was the only political leader of the country who was speaking forcefully against the barbarism in the country. “We will have to think and get united against this barbarism in order to save other from meeting the same fate.”
Speaking on the occasion joint in-charge of the Women Wing of the MQM Ms Naila Latif said that the Taliban had not targeted Malala only. They had, in fact, attacked upon the symbol of education, knowledge and learning.
Thousands of women attended the prayer meeting and expressed solidarity with Malala Yousufzai.
