Spanish authorities detain a 21-year-old electronics student in Palma de Mallorca who allegedly planned to plant explosives at the University of the Balearic Islands -- inspired by the Columbine massacre in the United States.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) YANKA JURKIEWICZ, POLICE SPOKESPERSON, SAYING:
"This investigation started five months ago when comments alluding to the killings at Columbine High School in the United States were detected. The person detained expressed his liking for Eric and Dylan, the murderers of twelve students and a teacher."
On the university campus, students were shocked.
(SOUNDBITE) (Mallorcan) MARINA, STUDENT, SAYING:
"I found out in class and it's true we are afraid, because, holy mother of god, there are so many people here. But thankfully nothing happened."
Police said the student had planned to use bombs and that Documents found at his home expressed his hatred of society and university students.
