The Syrian army stormed the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp, as well as the neighbouring district of al Hajar al Aswad, trying to push back anti-Assad forces. The southern part of Damascus remains a stronghold for the rebels. They launched an all-out offensive on the capital in July, before retreating to the suburbs.
