This is quite possibly my favorite Disney song of all time. There just something... heartfelt about the whole thing. You just really get the feeling that she truly means everything she's singing about. I'd like to leave my comments there, but so many people seem to have a problem with RD in this role...
Look, personality is of topmost importance when I make my casting choices. Between Rainbowdsh and Rarity… I will admit that Rarity makes the better Esmeralda, though it is a close call in my mind. Esmeralda is kind, loyal, and very generous to her friends when they need it. While it could go either way, Rarity does fit slightly better. The problem, however, is that I’m not making a single pmv.
I’m closing in on 100 pmvs now, and I have the additional problem of balancing the Hunchback against all the other Disney films I’ve done before. And the bottom line is… Rarity plays this part all the time. She’s got Ariel, Cinderella, and Jasmine under her belt, and several others on the way. Giving her Esmeralda would be nothing new. Par for the course. Run of the mill. And no amount of cool editing or awesome music would stop it from being boring. And making something boring is worse than making something bad.
Rainbowdash may not have as much of these qualities as Rarity does, but she still has them. Just because we don’t see them often, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. And for once, just this once, I wanted those parts of her to shine. It may have made a weaker video, but it made the whole My Little Disney series stronger.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can't change, like how I do not own My Little Pony or Disney;
the courage to change the things I can, like the sloth that's keeping me from making the best pmvs possible;
and the wisdom to know the difference.
