School is out in Chicago Monday as public school teachers stage their first strike in a quarter century.
The teachers walked out over reforms sought by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and endorsed by President Barack Obama's administration.
Some 29,000 teachers and support staff in the nation's third largest school district are involved in the strike. Some 350,000 students have been impacted by the walkout.
The strike has become a politically sensitive issue for the President as the November election approaches.
While Obama is expected to win Illinois, union anger could spill over into neighboring Midwest states where the election with Republican Mitt Romney is much closer.
