Putin Leads Siberian Cranes on Hand Glider - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.
Is there anything that's beyond the reach of Russian president Vladimir Putin?
Besides being an important world leader, he seems to find time for many hardcore outdoor activities.
A recent report from Russia says that Putin plans to fly with a pack of Siberian cranes. Yes, you heard that right.
These cranes have been raised in captivity and they need to learn how to fly south similar to the movement patterns of birds in the wild.
So the experts have devised a creative method - a hand glider acts as the leader of the pack and guides them to where they need to fly. And it is reported that Putin will get on that hand glider this year and show those cranes the way.
Back in 2010, Putin made news after spending some time with a polar beer in the Arctic. He commented to a journalist about the polar bear's paws "They're heavy. He's the real master of the Arctic."
However, one story that validated Putin's love for outdoors more than any other showed him riding shirtless on a horse in Siberia.
