Parisians mark 15th anniversary of Princess Di death

Hers was a story that captivated a generation.

The shy nursery school teacher who married her prince - with images like these that went around the world and turned Princess Diana into a global icon.

But it was not to be happily ever after.

Cracks in the marriage soon showed with Diana increasingly going her own way - until the inevitable divorce in 1996.

A defiant Diana continued her charity work while her love life also came under the spotlight.

Her untimely death with her last partner Dodi al-Fayed in this Parisian tunnel fifteen years ago, while being followed by paparazzi, sparked a huge outpouring of public grief with thousands lining London's streets for her funeral.

In Paris today, a small crowd gathered at a makeshift memorial to pay their respects.

"I think they'll still be coming in 5, 10, 15 years or more. They're so besotted by her, she was so lovely, that they'll keep coming. And I think we'll be back."

Had she lived, Princess Diana would have been 51 this year.
