American actor Andy Griffith has died at the age of 86.
A deeply religious man from rural North Carolina he said he considered becoming a priest before choosing a career in entertainment.
And it was a career that endeared him to a public that will remember him best as Andy Taylor - America's Favourite Sheriff" and attorney Ben Matlock.
