Strip Clubs Offer College Tuition to Recruit Dancers - as part of the news series by GeoBeats.
Two strip clubs in Windsor, Ontario have devised a creative plan to recruit young women as dancers.
The clubs are searching for female college students who will dance on stage in exchange for college tuition payments. Early in July, the federal government cracked down on foreign employees working in the sex industry, banning temporary working visas and not allowing existing visas to be renewed. The lack of foreign employees has left a void in adult establishments.
Part-time dancers can earn nearly $1,700 per semester. While some believe the promotion is exploiting cash strapped college students, one club owner defends his business stating, “At worst it’s being opportunistic and at best it’s a way for the girls to better themselves. No one is taking advantage of anybody.”
Last year, another unusual method for getting rid of student debt surfaced. Some women started using sugar daddy websites to pay off their tuition costs and college loans. “Piles of student debt and a job-scarce, lackluster economy” were said to be the reasons behind the sudden need for sugar daddies.
