Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi said that the Congress-led UPA Government has taken a number of initiatives for the welfare of the weaker section of the society. Under the leader ship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh the Central government has sanctioned huge funds to the state for development in education, power housing and roads, she added. Sonia Gandhi also informed about the Congress-led government’s flag ship programme Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme to guarantee jobs to the poor in the villages.
