Iran to 'block' Gulf oil if sanctions proceed

Iran has threatened to cut off oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz if the West follows through with a plan to sanction Iran's vital oil exports.

The US Navy's Gulf-based Fifth Fleet responded by saying it will not tolerate any such disruption.

Around 40 per cent of the world's oil transported by sea passes through the strait.
