Egypt's President Mohamed Mursi arrived in Beijing on Tuesday (August 28), on his first trip to the country.

Mursi, who was elected in June and consolidated his power this month by dismissing top military leaders, is seeking to introduce himself to a wider world ahead of a trip to Iran - the first by an Egyptian leader in three decades - and China.

China had generally comfortable relations with former president Hosni Mubarak's government, but ties with Mursi and his Muslim Brotherhood-associated government have been less clear.

Mursi's visit could provide a chance to see how China intends to steer relations with Egypt and other major Middle Eastern countries transformed by the Arab Spring.
