Key absences challenge Afghan talks in Bonn

The Taliban's boycott of the Bonn conference on Afghanistan, 10 years after they were absent from its precursor, raises grave doubts about what progress can be made towards peace, experts have said.

The leaders of the country's brutal, decade-long insurgency will not attend Monday's much-heralded international talks in Germany, saying the meeting will "further ensnare Afghanistan into the flames of occupation".
