Pakistan's mental health programme inadequate

Ten to 16 per cent of Pakistanis suffer from moderate Lahore, according to the World Health Organisation. One per cent suffer from severe mental illness.

But, there is a glaring insufficient number of psychiatrists and psychologists in the country with the ratio of severely-ill patients to doctors at 2,000 to 1.

Additionally, the social stigma attached with mental illness often keeps many people from seeking treatment at all.

Al Jazeera's Imtiaz Tyab reports from Lahore.
