L'Oreal heiress deemed unfit to manage wealth

After a very public three-year-long saga, Europe's richest woman must cede control of her $20bn fortune to her daughter and two grandsons.

Liliane Bettencourt, heiress to the L'Oreal cosmetics fortune, has been deemed unfit to manage her own assets as a result of an ongoing struggle with dementia and Alhemizer's disease.

Bettencourt's lawyers have vowed to appeal the ruling and Bettencourt herself has threatened to flee France in an effort to escape the guardianship.

Al Jazeera's Estelle Youssouffa reports from Paris.
