Libyan fighters close in on Gaddafi hometown

Libyan rebel fighters are closing in on Muammar Gaddafi's hometown of Sirte.

The city -- Gaddafi's birthplace and one of the last still held by his men -- is now the main target for the fighters allied to the National Transitional Council.

Meanwhile, in Tripoli, signs of normal life are returning. Citizens are venturing out of their homes and some shops are opening.

But there have also been reports of mass abuses against civilians taking place.

And the whereabouts of the Libyan leader are still unknown.

Al Jazeera's James Bays reports from Tripoli.
