Afghan weddings may get budget cuts

In Afghanistan, wedding celebrations are a unique opportunity for people to show their hospitality.

But the size and scale of the affairs has prompted the government to consider a new law aimed at curbing the extravagant feasts that weddings often become, especially given the level of unemployment and poverty in the country.

Officials and other tribal leaders want to limit the number of guests, as well as the items on the menu, which would instead be drawn up by the municipal authority.
