Muslims in Indonesia celebrate one of the biggest holidays on the Islamic calendar - Eid al-Fitr.
The milestone marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims must fast from dawn until dusk.
Religious leaders said it was important time to reflect on the meaning of religion and the plight of the less fortunate.
Meanwhile, thousands streamed into mosques like this one across Malaysia to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
Many, clad in traditional costumes, were optimistic about the future.
(SOUNDBITE) (Bahasa Malaysia) MALAYSIAN MUSLIM HASSANUDIN RADAM SAYING:
"I hope my family stays strong in faith and faces no problems in whatever they do. All my children will take care of each other and we hope our relationships with the other family members will be strengthened in this festival."
At the same time, Muslims in the Phillipines marked the holiday with an outdoor prayer.
The Eid al-Fitr celebrations lasts three days.
