Eurozone leaders want Greece to prove itself first

The financial leaders of the Eurozone have decided to hold onto the $8 bn they had set aside for another bailout loan for Greece.

Instead, they want Greece to prove that it is doing its part to reform its economy.

The presence of the US treasury chief, Timothy Geithner - unprecedented at a Euro finance ministers meeting - is a clear indication of Washington's growing concern over the global impact of the European debt crisis.

Geither urged the finance ministers to leverage their $440 bn bailout fund and free more resources to tackle the debt crisis, but the head of the Eurozone group said it would only decide in October whether to go ahead with the bailout, and only if Greece has done enough to cut its deficit.
