Decision expected on Assange asylum

Ecuador officials are expected to make a decision later Thursday on whether WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange can seek asylum in their country.

Assange has been staying at the Ecuador embassy in London for the past two months in order to avoid extradition to Sweden.

Officials there want to question him on sex crime allegations.

The circumstances surrounding the extradition were ramped up earlier in this week when British authorities threatened to raid the Ecuador embassy to remove Assange.

The Ecuadorean government said such actions would be considered hostile and a violation of their sovereignty.
