(ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION)

Salvors began removing parts of the bow of the stricken container ship Rena on Wednesday (August 15).

The bow is the last part of the ship that is visible after the vessel broke apart and the stern sunk in January.

The 47,230-tonne Liberian-flagged Rena initially ran aground on a reef 22 km (12 miles) off Tauranga on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island in October 5, 2011.

The captain Mauro Balomaga and navigator Leonil Relon were charged under the Maritime Transport Act for operating a vessel in a manner likely to cause danger and were sentenced to seven months in jail.
