What's real and what's illusion? Should I trust my memories?

Those are some of the questions Colin Farrell seeks to answer in the retooled version of the 1990 sci-fi classic "Total Recall."

Farrell says when he was first approached to star in the new film he wasn't sure if it should be remade.

SOUNDBITE: Colin Farrell, actor, saying (English):

"I was skeptical at first and then I read the script and the script felt different enough, it felt like there was a very clear tonal shift between both films and so I thought the film could be shot without one feeling like that was a repetition, I thought it felt like an original piece of work."

"Total Recall" is an action thriller about reality and memory - which first starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone.

This time around Farrell is in the lead and is joined by Kate Beckinsale, who plays his wife and Jessica Biel, who suits up as a rebel fighter.

Biel said director Len Wiseman made more than just a remake.

SOUNDBITE: Jessica Biel, actress, saying (English):

"His visuals very really exciting and his characters were really strong and developed and I think those are the reasons why (taking part in the film)."

The film opens in cinemas on August 23.
