A car bomb blast in Yemen killed a local military official on Thursday in the port city of Mukalla, according to state-run Saba news agency.
Brigadier Omar Salim Ba-Rashid, a dean of a Yemeni military academy, died in the blast along with his bodyguard.
His son was also wounded, according to the al-Masdar news website.
Yemen declared victory in June over militants calling themselves Ansar al-Sharia (Partisans of Islamic Law), but they continue to pose a serious threat, despite losing control over territory they controlled for most of last year.
However, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
