The man charged with mass murder over a shooting rampage in a US cinema last month is "mentally ill", according to his defence lawyer.
It is being seen as a sign that James Holmes may plead insanity.
The 24-year-old is accused of opening fire in a cinema in Denver, killing 12 and wounding dozens.
