Spain's King Juan Carlos suffered a fall on Thursday (August 2) as he tripped over a step during a visit to the Spanish defense headquarters in Madrid.

Spanish media said the monarch did not experience any major injury as a result of the fall.

King Juan Carlos broke his hip during an elephant hunting holiday in April. The price of the hunting escapade sat badly with Spaniards struggling to overcome an economic crisis which has left nearly one in four Spaniards unemployed.

After the fall on Thursday, the Spanish monarch continued the meeting with his top military brass sporting a bruised nose.
