Queen welcomes dignarities for Olympics

At a reception at Buckingham Palace ahead of the opening ceremonies, royals mingled with heads of state and other dignarities.

U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama chatted with Prince William and Kate (NAT SOUND OF William saying he'll be asleep when opening ceremonies air in the states)

Ahead of the third Olympic games ever in London , Queen Elizabeth had a word for her guests.

SOUNDBITE: Queen Elizabeth II saying:

"I wish you and your countries successful, enjoyable and memorable games."

Leaders from Brazil, Mongolia and other will join a crowd of 60,000 people at Olympic Park for the kick off ceremonies which are expected to celebrate British history and culture.

Also making its way to the Olympic Park was the official flame which sailed past some of London's most notable landmarks. En route to the opening ceremonies, the flame has been carried by 8,000 people including celebrities, athletes and locals.
