The Hovensa oil refinery on the US' Virgin Islands has announced it will halt operations next month.
The refinery is one of the islands' biggest employers. More than 2.000 people are losing their jobs because the refinery on St. Croix is shutting down.
It is a double blow to St. Croix, which is already facing government cutbacks.
Al Jazeera's Andy Gallacher reports from St. Croix.
