On Friday, dozens of protesters were killed and hundreds of others wounded in a bloody day of protests across Syria. And on Saturday, as funerals took place for the dead, another dozen mourners were fatally shot by security forces. Barack Obama has condemned Syria for its outrageous use of violence, and accused President al-Assad of choosing the 'path of repression'. Can al-Assad withstand the seeds of another Arab awakening? Or could the protests bring down yet another regime?
