Olympic athletes land at Heathrow Airport

Tuesday (July 24) was predicted to be the busiest day for athletes arriving for the Olympic Games at London's Heathrow airport.

More than 4,000 passengers were expected to fly in for the Olympics. This includes athletes, their coaches, and also other travellers coming to London for the Games.

More than 1,000 volunteers are at the airport to welcome athletes and officials.

Athletes and delegates from countries including Austria, Australia, Botswana and Poland arrived in the morning.

Larger teams were due to come in later in the day.

In total, around 217,000 passengers were expected to pass through the airport, including 99,000 arrivals
